Operating since 2000, this fiercely independent, privately owned bookshop is a sanctuary for local readers. Helmed by a former early childhood educator, the store places a massive specialty focus on children's literature, young adult fiction, and unique dyslexia-friendly titles. Alongside mainstream new releases, the shop prides itself on an eclectic, highly curated mix of remaindered bargains, local Canberra authors, and indie graphic novels. The staff are incredibly passionate and offer excellent tailored recommendations.

Well presented with great music playing and a nice vibe throughout.

Canberra Centre

Canberra's second largest shopping mall covering a large section of Canberra's shopping district. It includes the usual range of stores you'd find in major Australian malls. These include department stores (large branches of both David Jones and Myer), a food hall and eateries, and specialty shops for adults and kids fashion both upmarket and basic. There are also electronics, books, souvenirs and Australian-made products.

formerly Belconnen Fresh Food Markets

Formerly the Belconnen Fresh Food Markets, this historic site has been completely transformed into a state-of-the-art, European-inspired indoor market pavilion. The precinct houses over 40 artisanal traders, including organic fruit and vegetable providores, premium butchers, local fishmongers, and specialty delis. Capital Region Farmers Market

An exceptional fresh food market with products being sold direct from the producer. Stalls sell fruit, vegetables, meat, seafood, honey, preserves, cakes, wine and plenty more. Be sure to come early for the freshest produce and grab a coffee or something to eat from one of the pop up stalls. It is a fair distance from Civic, but the trip is well worth it if you can make it.

A high-volume mall supermarket perfect for travellers needing to quickly stock up on standard groceries, fresh fruit, pre-made salads, and travel toiletries late into the evening.

A massive, full-line supermarket. This location stays open exceptionally late, making it the most reliable spot in the district for late-night supply runs. Features an on-site bakery, hot roast chicken counter, and an attached Liquorland.

A shopping centre with about 80 specialty stores, though as it is not a mall, don't expect the range to be as great as what you'd find in a mall. There are a couple of cafes in the shopping centre, though the range is not the best. If you are looking for a better range, some of the nearby malls will have a better range.

Costco Majura Park

A massive 13,500-square-meter membership warehouse. Ideal for long-term travellers and campervan holidaymakers looking to buy bulk foodstuffs, heavy-duty outdoor camping gear, electronics, and cheap automotive supplies. The complex also features an incredibly cheap membership-only fuel station on-site and a budget-friendly food court serving oversized pizzas and hot dogs.

Dan Murphy’s Canberra Airport

A high-capacity, warehouse-style liquor retailer. A massive, well-organised branch of Australia's oldest family-owned commercial bookseller. This store is locally franchised and boasts an incredibly comprehensive inventory spanning all major genres, including massive contemporary fiction walls, biography aisles, history texts, and an extensive travel and stationery pavilion. Features a very active local book club program and frequently hosts weekend book-signing events for domestic Australian authors.

While part of a fairly unexciting national chain, this branch of Dymocks is much better than average as it has well-chosen stock.

Farmer Brown's Free Range Eggs

One of Farmer Brown's self-serve outlets that entirely sells free-range eggs. The hens here have a lot of room (for those concerned about animal ethics) and whilst it may be a bit pricey, they do taste great.

Hops and Vine

A small but diverse store that has over 200 different varieties of Australian craft beer, mainly from the ACT and the immediate surrounding areas such as the Yass Valley or the Snowy Mountains. The building that it's located in formerly served as the town's village hall (yep, Hall's hall) and cinema; there are still some occasional workshops and events in what's now the former village hall.

A smaller, single-storey community shopping strip serving the westernmost suburbs of Belconnen. Established in 1974, the complex has a retro, nostalgic design but houses around 60 practical stores including pharmacies, bakeries, newsagencies, a discount variety shop, and a local library branch.

Majura Park Shopping Centre

A massive, exceptionally convenient single-storey sub-regional shopping plaza. It houses a large Big W department store, Toymate, a high-volume Chemist Warehouse, and over 30 specialty lifestyle, fashion, and electronic stores. Includes a 160-seat air-conditioned food court and Lollipop's Playland for families traveling with children. Ample free parking makes it an excellent supply pitstop.

A wonderful agricultural farm shop operating on a heritage site farmed since the 1820s. The shop operates entirely via automated, self-service tap-and-go checkout terminals. Locally famous for fresh free-range eggs, grass-fed local lamb, organic compost, and local honey. In autumn (typically around March), the farm opens its spectacular interactive Sunflower Maze.
