Baar Fun Fun

This classic tango bar is one of the oldest bars in Montevideo, 100 years old. Many famous tango artists have played here. Weekend nights there are live performances, which means that there is an entrance fee. Both the atmosphere and the clientele of this bar is a combination of old and young. There's both indoor and outdoor seating (the latter is open in the winter too). Try the house specialty Uvita, a drink of grenache wine and port wine.

Unassuming place inside a marketplace but with an excellent selection of beers in a range of style. Yeah, they've got a ubiquitous IPA, but it's obligatory these days, but to their credit, everything else is creative and well-brewed. The best of the bunch is their Mercado, but they've also got a couple of Belgian styles, a Scottish ale, a stout, and a honey beer, so something for every kind of beer lover.

Hugely popular hangout spot with indoor or outdoor tables. 10-15 beers on tap and those that aren't house-brewed ales are from local Uruguayan breweries. The house beers are typically a smattering of styles with light-bodied ales and IPAs always available though the best beers are their Scottish ale and anything seasonal.

Sympathetic bar in the old town. Good place to enjoy tapas and chivitos and a beer. It's open both in the day and until late at night.

Cavernous warehouse-style space with some of Montevideo's best craft beers. Food includes some rather weird pizza and some of the biggest burgers in town. The beers are mostly ubiquitous IPAs but there are occasional flashes of brewing skill and creativity in stouts or Belgian styles. Their best beers have been a Russian imperial stout and a Belgian tripel, but don't count on them being available.
