Timeline
19:00
Start with a coffee and a snack at Bar Facal. It is a fairly touristy café and restaurant located next to the Fuente de Candados, just a five-minute walk from the Palacio Municipal. The varied menu is perfect for a pre-sunset bite, and you can enjoy tango performances while you wait.
19:30
Head up to the viewing platform in the Palacio Municipal tower. This massive brick building hosts the museums of photography and art history, but the real treat is the public tower. Arrive thirty minutes before sunset to find a spot and watch the golden light begin to spill over the city.
20:00
Stay at the Palacio Municipal tower for the main event. On January 15, the sun sets at 20:00, heading toward the WSW. The view from the tower offers a clear line of sight to the horizon as the day ends.
20:30
End the evening with a classic Uruguayan chivito at La Pasiva. This regional restaurant chain is located just two minutes from the Palacio on Sarandí. Open until 01:00, it is the perfect spot to digest your meal and the sunset while enjoying a beer.
Local tip
Check the route to the tower if you are unfamiliar with the building's interior. The Palacio Municipal is a historic site, so be prepared for potential security checks before accessing the viewing platform.
