Ángel Gallardo

Ángel Gallardo was an Argentine civil engineer, natural scientist and politician. He served variously as the president of the National Council of Education, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Rector of the University of Buenos Aires. He was recognised for his scientific work both in Argentina and abroad.

Torcuato de Alvear y Saenz de la Quintanilla (12 April 1822 – 8 December 1890) was an Argentine conservative politician. He was the son of soldier and statesman Carlos María de Alvear and father of Marcelo Torcuato de Alvear, president of Argentina from 1922 to 1928. He was also a Freemason.

Carlos María de Alvear
Carlos María de Alvear (25 October 1789 – 3 November 1852) was an Argentine soldier, statesman and diplomat who served as the second Supreme Director of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata from 9 January to 15 April 1815. He played a leading role in the capitulation of royalist-held Montevideo in June 1814 and later commanded the republican army in the Cisplatine War, winning the Battle of Ituzaingó (20 February 1827).
