Resurgence Brewing

With the expansion into the former E. & B. Holmes Machinery Company building, the entirety of Resurgence's roster of regularly-available beers is now brewed at their new facility on Chicago Street. On tap you'll find a rotating selection of their beers (always including the flagship Resurgence IPA, Sponge Candy Stout and Loganberry Wit) poured in what's far from typical "brewery tasting room" ambience: spacious, sleek and minimalist with just a few industrial-chic touches, and immaculately clean to boot. Best of all, they've now got a full food menu to go with.

Hartman's Distilling Co.
Hartman's isn't the first distillery in Buffalo to produce bourbon — that would be Buffalo Distilling over in Larkinville — but it is the first to specialize in Kentucky's trademark whiskey, and the results are not half bad: it's full-bodied yet goes down easy. But that's not the end of the story: drinkers of gin, vodka, Scotch, and rye can sample the high-quality spirits produced by namesake owners Jen and Justin Hartman at the onsite tasting room, where the goods are served either neat or in the form of classically-inspired yet creative craft cocktails. And if you'd rather experience Hartman's in a different way, how about learning about the manufacturing process itself via a distillery tour, or stopping by the small retail stand to take some of the goodness home?

The game here is simple, light, classic, reasonably-priced American fare cooked up right, served in generous portions in an awe-inspiring setting at RiverFest Park, with a front-row seat to the majesty of the Buffalo River's grain elevators. Tewksbury Lodge is open for lunch five days a week with a menu of sandwiches (the classic corned-beef Reuben is a hit), burgers (which, with monikers such as "The Longshoreman", "The Grain Scooper" and "The Irishman", pay tribute with their monikers to the neighborhood's heritage), and wraps (including a killer take on Philly cheesesteak), but on Fridays opening hours extend to dinner, featuring a rather modest selection of full-sized main courses tilted slightly toward seafood.
