Timeline

  1. 15:12

    Café Weimar

Grab a coffee and a slice of cake at Café Weimar. It is a traditional Viennese café where you can listen to piano music every day after 19:30, but in the late afternoon it is a quiet spot to warm up before the chill sets in.

  2. 15:42

    St. Johannes Nepomuk Kapelle

Walk 88 minutes from the café to St. Johannes Nepomuk Kapelle. This was Otto Wagner’s first religious structure and served as the model for his later work. The short walk from the Kapelle to the main church is not provided, so check the route.

  3. 16:12

    Kirche am Steinhof

Arrive at Kirche am Steinhof. Find a seat near the western windows. The sun sets toward the WSW, casting a warm glow through the Art Nouveau stained glass. If you are visiting on a Saturday, note that guided tours are available at 15:00, but you will want to stay for the evening light.

  4. 16:57

    The Highlander

Head to The Highlander for a drink or a late dinner. It is a regional restaurant on a small square that offers its own beer and vegetarian dishes. It is worth the price for the atmosphere and the quality.

Local tip

The walk from St. Johannes Nepomuk Kapelle to the main church is quite long (88 minutes). If you want to save time, take Bus 47A from U4 Unter St Veit directly to the church area, but the walk from the Kapelle is part of the historical journey.

Check before you go
