Start with a pastry at Demel. This historic confectionary, once the caterer to the Imperial household, is known for having some of the best pastries in Vienna. Arrive early to beat the crowds and secure a seat near the window.
15:57
Walk to the Wiener Secession. Spend the last half hour observing the Jugendstil architecture and the famous golden dome (Krauthappel). The late afternoon sun will begin to warm the building’s façade, highlighting the intricate details of Olbrich’s design.
16:27
Watch the sunset. As the sun sets toward the WSW around 16:27, the light will shift across the Secession’s exterior, offering a perfect photo opportunity of the golden ball against the darkening sky.

End the evening at Café Hawelka. One of Vienna’s most famous intellectual cafes, it offers a cozy atmosphere and surprisingly reasonable prices for its location. It is open until 01:00 on weekdays, making it a perfect spot to unwind after the sunset.
Local tip
Demel can get busy, so arriving 75 minutes before sunset ensures you get a table without waiting. The Secession is open until 18:00, so you have plenty of time to explore the interior before the sunset moment.
