Pick up a warm drink or light snack inside the museum shop or a nearby kiosk before heading to the viewing area. The museum is free, but check opening hours for your visit date. In winter (November to March), it closes at 16:30 with no entry after 15:30, so arrive early. In spring/summer (April to October), it stays open until 17:00.

Find a spot near the windows or the exterior grounds facing west. The museum offers a high-quality view of Liaoning's history, but for this moment, let the architecture frame the sky. If you are visiting on public holidays, be prepared for queues to enter, so you may want to secure your spot outside early.

Watch the sunset. On 15 January, the sun sets toward the WSW at 16:40. The golden light begins around 15:56, giving you ample time to settle in and enjoy the warm hues reflecting off the museum's structure. Take in the view as the day transitions to evening.

Stay for a moment after the sun dips below the horizon. The museum's collection of traditional art and calligraphy is best appreciated in the calm after the sunset. If you have time, check the temporary exhibitions on the third floor, which feature relics from the stone age to the Qing dynasty. Remember that you must leave by 16:30 in winter or 17:00 in warmer months.
