Sarajevo is the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and its largest city. Sarajevo is very tourist friendly, especially pedestrian area in the Old Town in the centre of the city. Sarajevo is a cosmopolitan European capital with a unique Eastern twist that is a delight to explore. The people are very friendly, be they Bosniaks, Croats, Serbs or anyone else.

    A covered market for haberdashery and craftsmanship, built during the Ottoman Empire period, with a design based on the design of the mosques. The bedesten serves as the central building in the historic commercial part of the city, and has its origins in the Greco-Roman basilica or kaiserion which served a similar purpose. During Ottoman times, the bedesten was of such economic importance that cities were classified under two categories: those with a bedesten, and those without. These days the focus is on low-end tourist tat and knock-off watches and handbags.

    Market hall opened in 1895 and home to local meat, cheese and vegetable merchants: walnuts are a speciality. The market was bombed with great loss of life in February 1994 and again in August 1995. The first attack was a single mortar, and responsibility was disputed. The second was five rounds undeniably from Bosnian-Serb positions, and precipitated NATO military intervention in the conflict.
