Contains hundreds of great European masterworks dating from the 14th to the 18th centuries, including the largest Rubens collection in the world. Café Klenze is its pleasant bakery cafe.

CCC Container Collective

Container Collective is a ziggurat of shipping containers on Atelierstraße (corner with Friedenstraße) on the southeast flank of Ostbahnhof, the start of Werksviertel. It's billed as an art space but (in true bohemian style) no artistic work actually gets done and you come for the bars. As of 2022, these are Bar of Bel Air (daily 17:00-22:00), Transit Rooftop & Bar, and Kaserne de Janeiro cafe.

Café im Hinterhof

Hinterhof means courtyard and it's an attractive cafe-bar, with regular piano live music and exhibitions. They offer breakfast / brunch throughout the day and have good cakes.

Gans Woanders

Cafe, cultural centre and concert venue around a Hansel & Gretel house with a large wooden patio for events - many of these are free.

Glyptothek

This houses King Ludwig I's huge collection of Greek and Roman sculpture: he was determined to make Munich into a new Athens, if necessary by removing the original Athens piece by piece. The principal sculptures are the Aeginetes, excavated in the 19th century from the temple on the island of Aegina. The building, in neo-classical style of course, was completed in 1830. It was bombed out during the Second World War but the sculptures had been taken to safety. There's an attractive courtyard with cafe.

Lost Weekend

Daytime this is a coffee shop, vegan cafe and bookshop. Around 20:00 it morphs into a live performance venue with jazz, rock, blues and electro.

Müllers'ches Volksbad

Have a swim at this Art Nouveau public indoor pool opened in 1901 - bring your own towel. The sauna is temporarily closed to save heating costs, and the cafe is closed permanently.

This tiny cafe barely holds ten people. The soups are delicious and the place is popular with students of the nearby TUM, so expect to wait a few minutes in line.
