Plaza Garibaldi

Mariachi Square

In this square, groups of musicians play folk music. Most of these groups are "mariachis" from Jalisco, dressed in Charro costume and playing trumpets, violins, guitars and the guitarrón or bass guitar. The square is surrounded by cafés and restaurants that cater to mariachi band enthusiasts.

Museo Júmex

This privately-owned modern art museum houses an extensive collection of work by Mexican and international artists, including Orozco and Amorales, and hosts special exhibits. Cafe and restaurant. The museum has ramps and elevators for access for people with limited mobility, and have wheelchairs available for loan free at reception.

Museo Kaluz

Eclectic art museum that straddles the line between traditional artistic styles and the worlds of modern and contemporary art. The museum focuses on works that reflect the history and changing cultural values of Mexico City, a unique collection in a city crowded with outstanding arts venues. The museum itself is housed in a historic building, originally the Hospedería de Santo Tomás de Villanueva, but known to generations of Mexicans as the Hotel Cortes, the building was extensively restored and updated prior to the opening of Museo Kaluz in 2021. Small coffee shop on one corner of Parque Lincoln with both indoor and outdoor seating. A variety of hot and cold coffee beverages are available as well as light breakfast and lunch plates. Locals love the fresh-baked cookies and vegetarians will appreciate the vegan muffins.

Cafe el Popular

Long-time fixture in the heart of downtown. Traditional homemade Mexican food including fresh baked breads, though the restaurant is historically Chinese and once served hybrid Mexicanized Chinese dishes. The place is known for its coffee and of course is a dependable source of good, hearty food when the midnight munchies strike.

Café El Jarocho

This is a very old, family-owned coffee roaster's shop, and there are now at least three locations in Coyoacán. They have really good and cheap coffee, bad and cheap tortas (sandwiches in French bread), and reasonably standard American-style donuts. There are benches on the sidewalk just outside the Jarocho shops where you can sit to drink your coffee, or you can do like everyone else in Coyoacán and just stroll around the park with your Jarocho foam cup in your hand. On weekends, expect to wait in line to order your coffee. A long wait in line for coffee, a bag of fresh churros, and a conversation in Coyoacán's plaza is a quintessential Mexico City date.

Balcon del Zocalo

Rooftop dining atop the Hotel Zocalo Central. Food is nouveau Mexican with a number of unusual and creative fusions. The 9-course tasting menu is recommended because it highlights small plates showcasing various chef selections. The views are the best in the city with the Catedral Metropolitano and the Palacio Nacional lying just below (the night views make great photos with everything lit up). Very tourist friendly with English menus available, many English speaking waiters and the flexibility to suggest dishes for vegans.

The best tacos in the city. Established by Beatriz Muciño Reyes, who decided to immigrate into the city in 1887 alongside her brother Claudio, hoping for a better life. In the morning, you may enjoy a complete breakfast for $42, which includes: juice, coffee and the pastry of your choice; 2 tacos or eggs in any way you may think of, chilaquiles with eggs or chicken or pork rinds in green salsa. For lunch, there's a menu which includes: soup, rice, and the plate of your choice among 9 typical Mexican dishes, a soda and dessert for just $47. Don't forget to drop by on Viernes Pozolero(Fridays). On weekends, you cannot miss the Pancita en Cascabel (cow guts cooked in cascabel chili sauce) or a mushroom soup.

X, La Casa del Cafe

In business at the same location since 1930, this is Mexico City's oldest coffee house. They roast their own beans, specializing in organic Mexican-grown coffees. El Bajío

Some people call this the best place in the entire ciudad for traditional Mexican food. All of the tacos have a great flavor, and don't miss their mole sauce (even if on arroz). Bebidas buenoes - the horchata margarita and the cafe de olla are must haves. The restaurant is out of the way of the main Polanco area, but don't be fooled, it's usually busy so expect a wait.
