Café El Jarocho

This is a very old, family-owned coffee roaster's shop, and there are now at least three locations in Coyoacán. They have really good and cheap coffee, bad and cheap tortas (sandwiches in French bread), and reasonably standard American-style donuts. There are benches on the sidewalk just outside the Jarocho shops where you can sit to drink your coffee, or you can do like everyone else in Coyoacán and just stroll around the park with your Jarocho foam cup in your hand. On weekends, expect to wait in line to order your coffee. A long wait in line for coffee, a bag of fresh churros, and a conversation in Coyoacán's plaza is a quintessential Mexico City date.

Housed in a former convent, this institution serves up tasty Mexican dishes all day for reasonable prices. It is very popular so arrive early. Menu is in English and Spanish.

Cocuyo's

One of Mexico City's many famous taco stands, Cocuyo's has been featured on international food shows including Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations and the Netflix series, Taco Chronicles. The place has changed since Bourdain visited. They now have a dining room so you no longer have to stand on the street while you eat your taco, but the tacos are big and tasty as ever and they're still open in the wee hours of the night when those 3am munchies strike. Feel free to be adventurous and try something you've never heard of, but do be aware that some of those "unusual sounding" tacos contain gizzards, tongue, ears or other parts of the animal unfamiliar to foreign visitors. They might be delicious, but are you bold enough to find out?

Lebanese meze restaurant serving grilled meats like kebabs and all your Middle Eastern favorites like hummus and tabouleh. Very popular.

El Morral

Very good Mexican food. Don't miss the chiles en nogada, large chiles stuffed with ground beef, raisins, and nuts, and covered with a nut cream sauce. Their hand-made tortillas are fantastic. Service can be a bit slow though.

Guzina Oaxaca

Celebrity chef Alejandro Ruiz grew up in Oaxaca and he celebrates his city's famed cuisine in this elegant traditional restaurant. Quesadillas stuffed with flor de calebaza are a great entrée, and the mole oaxaqueno is not to be missed. It is a deep black and redolent with chocolate and chile and its served over turkey (the traditional way rather than the modernized practice of using chicken). A Bib Gourmand selection in the Guide Michelin.

Hacienda de los Morales

Historic and cultural space that operates as a traditional Mexican restaurant specializing in brunch, but with a spectacular dinner menu as well. Set in a large historic hacienda dating from the mid 16th century, the opulent estate features several spacious dining rooms, along with event halls and an outdoor garden. The hacienda originally operated as an agricultural estate growing olives and mulberries. As the city grew, lands were sold and developed to become Polanco, though the great house remained as a residence of the Morales family until the 1960s when it was restored to its current form as a luxury restaurant and event space. The restaurant is particularly popular for Sunday brunch, accompanied by live Mexican music. It also hosts special events such as a traditional Christmas dinner and a New Years Eve dinner with dancing and a live orchestra. It is an opulent slice of genuine history and an experience: like having dinner with one of the old Spanish dons.

One of the oldest (and more traditional) Japanese restaurants in the city. The sushi is excellent as is the tepenyaki. There is another branch at Torres Adalid 14, Colonia del Valle.
