Classy traditional bar with a 1900s look and feel. Innovative and amazingly prepares cocktails. Named by 50 Best as the number 1 best bar in the world. Reservations are highly recommended, but be aware that if you're not there within a few minutes of your reserved time, you lose your table.

Jazzatlan Capital

Laid back club with a sort of retro-hipster vibe. The club is an offshoot of a popular club founded in Cholula. Features live jazz music nightly with an upstairs club (reservations required, can be made via Whatsapp) and a downstairs salon that becomes standing room only when a good band is in the house.

La Faena

Old school cantina that celebrates the hispanic tradition of bullfighting. Campy wall decorations, a great jukebox full of classic Mexican rancheras, rock en espanol, and pop hits of the 90s. Cheap tacos, great variety of mezcal and tequila drinks, and a very lively crowd.

Mama Rumba

One of the most popular dance clubs/bars in the city, usually very full, plays salsa, merengue, and other Cuban music. There is another branch in San Angel, which is more popular with the younger crowd and can sometimes be hard to get into. Come early and get a free salsa lesson.

Friendly and colorful traditional pulqueria (one of the most popular in the city) with murals on the ceiling and walls. Serves cured and white (blanco) pulques. Try a natural pulque to taste pure agave flavor, or try one of the fruit or spiced flavors. The celery (apio) is recommended.

Tlecan

Small, intimate mescaleria that is just a few blocks from La Clandestina, with a similar focus and clientele, but a smaller, but exceptionally well focused mezcal list. Waiters are very knowledgable and can explain the types of maguey used by a particular brand and how it expresses itselfe in appearance, aroma, and flavor. In addition to outstanding artesanal mezcals from Oaxaca, they have a few bottles of mezcal sub-styles, such as bacanora (usually found only in Sonora) and raicilla (usually found only in Jalisco). A good bar for the curious epicure to learn about mezcal.

Taproom for a Queretaro-based craft brewery specializing in an eclectic collection of predominantly European style lager beers. The most unusual is probably the Rye Lager. They also have a nice Schwarzbier, seasonal brews like Oktoberfest, and a Mexican Lager intended to emulate a Corona or Tecate. Good selection of bar bites and the crowd is an eclectic mix of young professionals, ex-pats and digital nomads.

Friendly neighborhood cantina where locals and families gather to drink and eat botanas (light plates or "snacks"). Besides cold beer and micheladas, locals come for the house specialty, molcajetes, which are bowls made of volcanic stone that are filled with delicious stews just begging to be eaten with pieces of fresh tortillas.

Popular with a bohemian crowd, Bar Milan has a very relaxed and unpretentious atmosphere. It has a tendency to get overcrowded however.
