Best time: sunriseAbout 90 min

Timeline

  1. 06:42

    Royal Abu Bakar Museum

Arrive at the Royal Abu Bakar Museum grounds. Find a quiet corner facing west-southwest to wait for the first light. The 1866 palace building provides a historic backdrop as the sky brightens.

  2. 07:57

    Hiap Joo Bakery

Walk to Hiap Joo Bakery. It opens at 12:30 PM, so this timing does not work for a sunrise plan. Instead, head to Kopi Xuu Yau or The Replacement for early coffee and breakfast, as they open earlier. However, checking the context, Kopi Xuu Yau opens at 06:30 and The Replacement at 09:00. For a sunrise plan starting around 07:12, Kopi Xuu Yau is the best fit. Walk to Kopi Xuu Yau (13 mins from anchor) and enjoy a light meal or coffee while the city wakes up.

  3. 08:27

    Royal Abu Bakar Museum

Return to the Royal Abu Bakar Museum to explore the interior galleries. See the family tree artifacts and rare items in the daylight, fully appreciating the architecture and history now that the morning rush has not yet begun.

Local tip

Kopi Xuu Yau is open from 06:30, making it perfect for an early start. Hiap Joo Bakery does not open until 12:30, so plan your bakery visit for the afternoon if you want their fresh banana cakes.

Check before you go

  • Kopi Xuu Yau opens at 06:30. Ensure you are there by then for breakfast.
  • Hiap Joo Bakery opens at 12:30, so it is not suitable for a sunrise breakfast.
