Iconic café-bar in a retro living room style right at the entrance of Kastanienalle from where locals overlook the neighborhood from behind large windows. With regular live DJs, readings and Hollywood swings on the street.

This club in an old bowling alley offers electro club nights, live music performances, independent music, art exhibitions and food.

Arena Club

This techno club in a raw and run-down old boiler room of 500 m² provides the perfect atmosphere for hard industrial techno. It has one dance floor and two bars and an impressive light installation at the ceiling. Next to the club, the huge Arena Berlin compound also includes a larger multipurpose hall of 6,500 m² which hosts events such as concerts, fashion shows and conventions, a glass house for further events and a bar.

Barcomi's Deli

A deli with superb American cakes and cookies run by the American Cynthia Barcomi. Apple walnut caramel cake, Devil's Food cake, Lemon Meringue Pie, Triple Chocolate Cookies, they have it all. There are also bagels, salads and lasagna on the menu for the non sweet-tooths. You can try to repeat the wonder at home with her four recipe books. They also roast their own coffee which is excellent as well. Not so easy to find though - it is in a courtyard of a building situated roughly in the middle of the quiet Sophienstraße and there is only a small sign outside. Maybe look it up on Google Maps before visiting. The smaller original branch is situated at Bergmannstraße in Kreuzberg.

Berghain/Panorama Bar

Techno club in an old cogeneration plant near the Ostbahnhof. It has a huge dancefloor and room for more than 1500 people. Panorama Bar upstairs is open late until Sunday afternoon. Gay friendly, with hidden darkrooms and leatherboys. Be prepared for tough door policy on popular nights. Not for teenagers, no cameras allowed (mobile phones with a camera are allowed, but holders are expressly warned not to use them).

Bistro am Schloßpark

This Biergarten is simple, but friendly and a convenient place to have a beer and a currywurst after visiting the castle.

Brauerei Eschenbräu

A small brewery. In summer, they also have a biergarden (one of the few in Berlin where you can actually bring your own food). Throughout the year you can drink their beer in the bar (no outside food allowed there). They also distill spirits (including whisky).

Brauhaus Lemke am Schloß

formerly Luisen-Bräu

Excellent brewed beer. You can have either a helles (light) or a dunkles (dark). Although the beer is quite excellent, the atmosphere is quite touristy, and clearly not as antique as it strives to be.

Brauhaus Rixdorf

Traditional brewery with a very nice biergarten, lovely in summer. The food is typical Bavarian fare, and of pretty good quality.

Cafe Solvey

Lovely little vintage cafe. While drinks and cakes are decent, but not extraordinary for Mitte, the decor is really cute and it is very quiet. A good place to relax and read a magazine or book.

Café Fleury

Cute little French cafe near Weinbergspark. Excellent breakfast and tasty baguettes. Tends to be very crowded on weekends, be there when it opens if you want to have breakfast. If it is full, try the small sister Petit Fleury on the opposite side of the road.

A large bright corner cafe and bar. Direct fair trade coffee, organic teas & ice cream, home-made cakes. Evenings there is bistro food including pastas and salads.

Have a coffee, long drink or cocktail at this cozy café which is one of the most longstanding in Steglitz and Friedenau. This venue also offers some delicious meals, ice cream, breakfast and brunch.

Cozy retro-style bar with a lot of vintage furnishings, graffiti and typographic artworks on the wall, a large selection of beverages including bio drinks and regularly live music.

Café am Neuen See

A must-do during the day if the weather is nice. This cafe is more like an outdoor beergarden. Even though it's right in the middle of West Berlin, the "Café am Neuen See" is located in the middle of the Tiergarten next to a small lake. If you are a (romantic) couple, make sure to rent one of the rowboats and enjoy the silent and romantic scenery. The nicer the weather, the more packed this place gets. Don't even dream of a place to sit if it's one of the rare, warm Sundays.

Beers are between €4-5, giant pizzas are €8-9

similar to the Maxxim, but less r'n'b music, for the wealthy people of Charlottenburg. Nice interior, plays house and 70s/80s.

Eclectic mix of shows on, most nights of the week. good hip hop, reggae, drum’n’bass and electro events across 3 rooms and a terrace in an old factory. €5-10 entry. Opens about 10 but typically quiet until 00:00-01:00. Good strip of small vegetarian cafes in the same alley if you need to kill some time. Beers €2.50.

Clärchens Ballhaus

Traditional dance hall and restaurant established 1913. One of the few surviving Berlin ballrooms from the pre-WW1 era, featuring a hall of mirrors. Primarily known for its dance events (be it Disco, Swing, Salsa, Tango, Cha-Cha or "Schwoof", i.e. freestyle), it also hosts concerts, but you may as well just come for dinner or a drink. The venue has been a set for films like Inglourious Basterds and Stauffenberg.
