Vatican Necropolis
The Vatican Necropolis is a necropolis that lies underneath Vatican City containing tombs dating from the first to fourth century AD, at depths varying between 5 and 12 metres (16 and 39 ft) below Saint Peter's Basilica. The Vatican sponsored archaeological excavations (also known by their Italian name scavi) under Saint Peter's in the years 1940–1949, which revealed parts of a necropolis dating to the Roman Empire. It is the home to the Tomb of the Julii, which has been dated to the third or fourth century.

Basilica di San Pietro
The centre of the Catholic world, this magnificent basilica with its Michelangelo-designed dome has an awe-inspiring interior. This place is huge, but everything is in such proportion that the scale escapes you. However, contrary to popular belief, it is not the Pope's cathedral; that honour lies with the Archbasilica of Saint John Lateran in San Giovanni.
Apr-Sep: 07:00-19:00, Oct-Mar: 07:00-18:00. Closed on Wed mornings for papal audiences and may be closed for other occasions.Free · Limited wheelchair access · Heritage listed · Wheelchair accessible

Pietà
The Pietà is a Carrara marble sculpture of Jesus and Mary at Mount Golgotha representing the "Sixth Sorrow" of the Virgin Mary by Michelangelo Buonarroti, in Saint Peter's Basilica, Vatican City, for which it was made. It is a key work of Italian Renaissance sculpture and often taken as the start of the High Renaissance. The sculpture captures the moment when Jesus, taken down from the cross, is given to his mother Mary.
