St. Joseph Hall

By the 20th century, the western end of Derby Street had become the heart of the Polish Community in Salem. The St. Joseph Society, a fraternal society, built this headquarters in 1909.

West India Goods Store
The term “West India Goods Store” was used in Salem as a generic term for a retail shop selling items from all over the world, not just the Caribbean. Captain Henry Prince (1764-1846) built this structure in the early 1800s.

Housed in a historic building dating to the 1650s, the Salem Arts Association features over 180 new and upcoming North Shore artists specializing in all media and disciplines. Pieces on display are constantly rotating and available for purchase. The association is an all volunteer run non-profit. Derby House
Built in 1762 as a wedding present, the Derby House was the home of Elias Hasket Derby (1739-1799) and Elizabeth Crowninshield Derby (1727-1799) for the first twenty years of their marriage.
