Patrick Andrew Collins

A bronze bust of congressman and Boston Mayor Patrick Collins is installed along Boston's Commonwealth Avenue, in the U.S. state of Massachusetts. The memorial was dedicated in 1908 and relocated in 1966. It features a bust of Collins on a granite base flanked by two bronze female statues representing America and Ireland.

Admittedly a "deep cut" of Back Bay churches, this building houses a congregation formed all the way back in 1665, during a time when being Baptist was a punishable offense. The current building was opened in 1872 and designed by H. H. Richardson, the very same architect of the more famous Trinity church anchoring Copley square. Another notable element here are the friezes seen ringing the top of the tower. These were carved on site by Frédéric Bartholdi, who would later create the Statue of Liberty in New York.

Vendome Firefighters’ Memorial
At 2:35 p.m. on June 17, 1972, fire broke out at the Hotel Vendome at the intersection of Commonwealth Avenue and Dartmouth Street in the Back Bay neighborhood of Boston. The fire was brought under control by 4:30 p.m., but at 5:28 p.m.
