Lustgarten

The Lustgarten (German: [ˈlʊstˌɡaʁtn̩] , Pleasure Garden) is a park in Museum Island in central Berlin at the foreground of the Altes Museum. It is next to the Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral) and near the reconstructed Berliner Stadtschloss (Berlin City Palace) of which it was originally a part. At various times in its history, the park has been used as a parade ground, a place for mass rallies and a public urban park.

Löwenkämpfer zu Pferde
Löwenkämpfer (The Lion Fighter) is an 1858 bronze equestrian statue by Albert Wolff, installed outside the Altes Museum in Berlin, Germany. An 1892 copy stands in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. The companion piece is Amazone zu Pferde, also installed outside the Altes Museum.

Granitschale im Lustgarten
The Great Granite Bowl in Berlin's Lustgarten (German: Granitschale im Lustgarten), which is located in front of the Altes Museum, has a diameter of 6.91 meters and weighs approximately 75 tons. With a circumference of 691⁄7 feet (approximately 21.7 meters), it is considered the Biedermeier Wonder of the World and is the largest bowl carved out of a single stone in existence. Initially commissioned by Prussian King Frederick William III, the granite bowl was placed in the museum's rotunda.

Altes Museum
The main floor houses the antiquities collection in an ongoing exhibit called "Neue Antike im Alten Museum" (New Antiquities in the Old Museum). Directly through the front door, entering from the Lustgarten (Pleasure Garden, now under reconstruction), there is a domed rotunda with red and white cameos, Greek-style, with statues of the gods. To reach the Hildesheim silver collection, go to the back of the rotunda, turn left, walk through the long gallery and turn left into a small room at the end.
