Watch House

The stone was once to be seen built into the front wall of a two-storey house, erected in 1825. It was the Parish Watch House. Its purpose was to hold ‘the drunk and disorderly. Believed to be demolished between the First and Second World Wars.

A seven-metre high, ten-tonne bronze representation of the bow of a cargo ship projects from the front of the building. A lone seafarer stands on the deck looking out across the Embankment to the Thames.
