La Poule

One of the best Portuguese-style chicken restaurants in the entire city (and there are quite a few.) It's owned by an Italian woman and the head chef is a Moroccan man, but no matter. Their chicken is grilled, not rotisserie. Served with piri-piri hot sauce, choice of salads and a huge pile of fresh fries. Lots of other things on the menu but don't bother. It's all about la poule (the chicken).

Famous delicatessen for smoked meat, served up in huge, juicy, peppery slabs. No reservations. Expect to wait for a table at most times, but the queue moves fast. Smoked meat sandwich 16$. A good tip: locals get their sandwiches or smoked meat at the take-away counter to the left of the restaurant entrance. It moves a lot faster, it's a bit cheaper - and you get the exact same sandwich!

Fairmount Bagel is a Montreal-style bagel bakery in Montreal, Quebec, Canada in the Mile End neighbourhood of the Plateau-Mont-Royal borough. The first location opened on September 7, 1919 on Saint-Laurent Boulevard by Isadore Shlafman. The current location, on 74 Fairmount Avenue West was opened in 1949.
