Nicholas I

The Monument to Nicholas I (Russian: Памятник Николаю I) consists of an equestrian bronze statue of Nicholas I of Russia, placed on an elaborate pedestal. It stands in front of Saint Isaac's Cathedral in St Isaac's Square in Saint Petersburg, Russia. It was designed by French architect Auguste de Montferrand and when unveiled on July 7 [O.S. June 25] , 1859, the six-meter statue created by sculptor Peter Clodt von Jürgensburg was considered a technical wonder.
