The Toronto and Nipissing (T&N) Railway built the station in the 1871; the last trains stopped here in 1991. The City of Markham now owns the historic railway station and uses it for community functions.

There is an old water wheel at the north-east corner of the former mill which is used today for a restaurant and shops. Looking older than its actual age, the present structure was built in 1987 replacing a mill destroyed by fire in 1983.
