Plaza de Mayo

This is the main plaza in Buenos Aires. It was here in 1977 that the group "The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo" was formed seeking justice for the disappeared. It was this group that was instrumental in causing the collapse of the military dictatorship and inspired similar groups in South and Central America. Today it has returned to being a much more peaceful place, where many people sit and relax surrounded by the Casa Rosado, the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Cabildo, the Head Quarters of the National Bank of Argentina and other well known Buenos Aires buildings.

A largely commercial section about five blocks long in the barrio of Belgrano. Despite the designation as a Chinese ethnic enclave, the area is populated by different Asian communities, with a predominance of Taiwanese people and, to a lesser extent, Japanese and Thais.
