Sheep Heid Inn

18th-century pub, with implausible claims to date from 1360, and perhaps named for the village slaughter-ground. In 1745 Bonnie Prince Charlie's army camped outside for a month and he held a Council of War here, to good effect as he proceeded to beat Jonny Cope at the Battle of Prestonpans. The skittle alley dates from 1880. The Inn serves good food, with a popular Sunday roast.
