Timeline

  1. 17:09

    Nootka Trail

Walk the Nootka Trail toward the coast. The terrain is rough and creek crossings are possible, so check tide tables and wear sturdy footwear. This 35-km trek offers old-growth forest and beach views, but for this short visit, a gentle stroll along the accessible sections near the start is best to prepare your legs and eyes for the view.

  2. 17:54

Santa Gertrudis - Boca del Infierno Provincial Park

Stand at Santa Gertrudis - Boca del Infierno Provincial Park. The sun sets toward the WSW, aligning perfectly with your view from this nature reserve. Arrive at sunset (17:54) to see the sky darken over the water. The park was established to protect this specific coastline, offering a quiet, protected space to watch the day end.

  3. 18:39

    Nootka Trail

Return to the settlement. Visit the church office to pay the $50 trail fee if you haven't already, or simply use this time to rest and reflect on the hike. The evening in Yuquot is quiet, and the transition from the wild trail back to the small community center marks the end of your coastal evening.

Local tip

The trail has difficult footing and some beaches cannot be crossed at high tide. Bring a headlamp for the walk back in the dark.
