Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre
Start at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre. It opens at 10:00, giving you the quietest time to explore the territorial museum and archives before the crowds arrive. You can see natural history, Indigenous history, and local Yellowknife history here.
11:48
Walk nine minutes to The Black Knight Pub. Since it is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday until 23:00, you can grab a drink or a light bite in the tradition of an English pub. This is a good spot to warm up and chat with locals before the late afternoon rush.
13:48
Head to Gold Range Bistro for lunch. This local café is famous for its plate-sized eggroll and is where the locals eat. It is a great place to try ordinary but high-quality food and meet good people.
14:48
Stroll to Aurora Emporium Art Gallery. With the friendly and chatty owner, you can browse Indigenous stone carvings, seal skin scarves, and bison hide wallets. It is a perfect way to pick up a meaningful souvenir before the sun sets.
15:48
End your day at Fred Henne Territorial Park. Although it is a 54-minute walk from the anchor, it is one of the best spots to watch the sun set toward the SW. On January 15, the sun stays low all day, making the golden hour particularly striking against the landscape of Long Lake.
