Best time: 15 OctAbout 180 min

Timeline

  1. 17:36

    Gold Range Bistro

Grab a plate-sized eggroll and a coffee. The locals eat here, and it is a reliable way to fuel up before the evening chill.

  2. 18:11

    Northern Arts and Cultural Centre

Walk to the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre. Find a spot on the grounds or just outside the entrance to wait for the sun to drop toward the WSW.

  3. 18:51

    Gold Range Hotel

Head to the Gold Range Hotel for a drink. It is the best-known drinking establishment in Yellowknife. On weekends, the country-and-western music adds a layer of atmosphere that is impossible to describe from a guidebook.

Local tip

The sun sets early in October. If you arrive too late, the light will be gone. The walk from the NAC to the Gold Range Hotel is short, so you can linger at the viewing spot without rushing.

Check before you go

  • The Gold Range Bistro is open for dinner and late-night snacks if you want to stay longer.
