Timeline
09:00
Arrive at the Bahadur Shah Zafar Grave. The site is free to enter. If a guide is present, they can share details about the Sufi saint and the exiled Mughal family. The morning light is soft and the site is quiet.
09:20
Walk 15 minutes to Thu Kha Yeik for a Myanmar breakfast. The shop opens at 5:00 and stays open until 21:30, making it a reliable spot for a local meal early in the day.
09:50
Head 16 minutes east to the Zoological Gardens. Opened by the British in 1906, this park houses 145 species of land animals. It is a spacious, green escape from the city bustle. On public holidays, you might catch the Elephant Circus, but on a regular weekday, it is a peaceful place to walk among the trees.
Local tip
The grave site is free, but bring cash for the food and drinks. The walk between the grave and Thu Kha Yeik is short, but the path to the Zoological Gardens is a bit longer. Wear comfortable shoes.
