Timeline

  1. 18:28

    Vincent's

Grab a Gansett and a meatball sub at Vincent’s. The bar is small and dark, but the staff wear ties and the atmosphere feels decades old. It is a quick three-minute walk from the historic district, making it the perfect pre-show fuel.

  2. 18:43

    Elm Park

Head to Elm Park. The walk takes about forty-eight minutes from the anchor, crossing Park Ave to reach Newton Hill. The trails lead up to the top, where the trees thin out just enough to frame the sky. It is one of the oldest public parks in the US, and the elevation gives you a quiet, elevated perspective of the city waking up to the evening.

  3. 19:28

    Elm Park

Watch the sun set toward the WNW. At 19:28, the golden light begins to fade, casting long shadows over the historic roofs below. The view is best before the trees block the horizon, so stay until the sky turns deep blue.

  4. 19:58

    Wachusett Brew Yard

End the night at Wachusett Brew Yard. The forty-five-minute walk back from the park brings you to this craft brewery taproom. If the weather is warm, take a seat outside on the sidewalk to digest your thoughts and enjoy a fresh pint from the local pilot system.

Local tip

The walk from Elm Park back to the brewery is long. If you prefer a shorter evening, skip the park hike and head straight from Vincent’s to Wachusett, but you will miss the sunset view.

Check before you go

  • Vincent’s has no listed hours, so call ahead to confirm they are open for dinner service.
  • Wachusett Brew Yard’s outdoor seating is weather-dependent.
  • The walk to Newton Hill is steep; wear comfortable shoes.
