Timeline

  1. 15:40

    Eastern Market

Pick up snacks and a drink at Eastern Market. The market is open until 17:00 on Sundays, so you have plenty of time to browse the vendors before the sun goes down. If it is a weekday, the market closes at 19:00, giving you even more flexibility.

  2. 16:10

    Folger Shakespeare Library

Walk to the Folger Shakespeare Library. The library is open until 17:00 on Sundays and 17:00 on weekdays, so you can still pop inside to see the impressive collection or just enjoy the exterior architecture as the light begins to change. The golden light starts at 16:29, so you are arriving just in time to see the building transform.

  3. 17:10

    Folger Shakespeare Library

Find a spot on the grounds to watch the sunset. The sun sets toward the WSW at 17:10. This is the perfect moment to enjoy the view and the atmosphere of the library as the day ends.

  4. 17:40

    Cafe Berlin

Head to Cafe Berlin for a drink. It is a short walk from the library. The back patio is a wonderful place to relax with a draught German beer as the evening cools down. The restaurant is open until 22:00 on weekdays and 23:00 on Fridays and Saturdays, so you have plenty of time to linger.

Local tip

If you are visiting on a Sunday, remember that Eastern Market closes at 17:00, so grab your snacks early. Cafe Berlin is a great spot to end the night, but it can get busy, so if you want a table on the patio, arrive a bit earlier.
