Timeline

  1. 16:30

    Kreeger Museum

Walk from Dupont Circle Metro via the D6 bus to the Kreeger Museum. Arrive before the sun sets to find a quiet corner inside the modernist home designed by Philip Johnson and Richard Foster. The collection of impressionist and early modern paintings is impressive, but the house itself is the main attraction. Enjoy the silence and the changing light through the windows as the afternoon fades.

  2. 17:20

    BlackSalt

Head to BlackSalt, a famous New American seafood restaurant in the Palisades neighborhood just a short walk from the museum. The seafood is incredibly fresh, and the atmosphere is refined. Since it is dark now, you are in for a proper dinner. The kitchen is open until 9:30 PM on weekdays, so you have time to savor a meal of fresh catches or one of their tasting menus.

  3. 18:20

    DOYLE

Take the D6 bus back towards Dupont Circle and walk to DOYLE, a classy bar at the bottom of the Dupont Hotel. The wall of windows offers the best people-watching in town. Order a signature cocktail, perhaps taking advantage of the happy hour special if you are there early enough, or simply enjoy the excellent drinks and the lively energy of the city at night.

Local tip

The Kreeger Museum is open by reservation only on weekdays. You must book your visit in advance for the 10:30 AM or 1:30 PM slots. On weekends, it is open to the public from 10 AM to 4 PM, but arriving an hour before sunset means you will miss the interior viewing. Plan your reservation for a weekday afternoon if you want to see the art, or accept that you are there primarily for the sunset view from the grounds or windows if you cannot book.
