Timeline
15:53
Pick up a coffee at Palermo. The café opens at 07:00, so you have plenty of time to grab a drink and settle in before the afternoon rush.
16:23
Walk to Mission San Buenaventura. Use the California Street exit from US 101 north to get there quickly. Wander the grounds and see the original well in the back of the church.
17:10
Stand in the courtyard of the Mission as the sun sets toward the WSW. The golden light from 16:33 will wash over the historic stone and the original well.
17:40
End your evening at Plaza Park. It is the oldest park in Ventura and sits just an 11-minute walk from the Mission. Stroll past the historic landmarks as the night settles in.
Local tip
The Mission is open until 5 PM on weekdays and 4 PM on Sundays. If you are visiting on a Sunday, you will need to leave the Mission grounds before sunset closes the site, or plan for a weekday visit to stay inside for the full golden hour.
