   Chiesa San Vidal

   Classical concerts by Interpreti Veneziani. They also run the nearby Music Museum in the nearby San Maurizio church.

   Chiesa della Pietà

   Between 1703 and 1740, Antonio Vivaldi taught the orchestra of the girls in the orphanage here, writing unparalleled music for them. Frequent concerts of his Four Seasons by a Baroque ensemble.

3. DoSan Marco

   La Fenice Theatre

   Teatro La Fenice

   One of the best opera houses in the world. The theatre is an identical reconstruction (rebuilt in 2003) of the previous theatre building that burned down in 1996. Tickets for opera, ballet, and symphony performances are available at the theatre, various locations around the city, or by phone. You can visit this historic theatre with an audioguide (good explanations in several languages).

   Tours: adults €10, students up to 26 and seniors over 65 €7, children up to 6 free. Slightly cheaper if purchased as part of a combined ticket with the Doge's palace. Performances €10-380

4. DoDorsoduro

   Northern Giudecca canal walk

   It's a long and sunny walk along the Giudecca canal, protected during winter time from cold northerly winds for being exposed to south and shielded by buildings. You might find interesting to see how a gondola is made, stopping by the Squero (Venetian for small ship yard) across a canal near San Trovaso Church. It's one of the few still in business in town. With some luck, you'll see some gondole through various manufacturing steps (gondole are not straight to counterbalance the gondoliere push).

   Oasi Dune degli Alberoni

   Visit the natural oasis in Alberoni, a WWF protected area of about 1.6 km² at the southern tip of the Lido.

6. DoCannaregio

   Orsoni Furnace

   One of the last industries left in Venice, the Orsoni Furnace produces fine glass panels and mosaics using the same technique since 1888. The small factory can only be visited on certain dates.

7. DoDorsoduro

   Southern Giudecca canal walk

   Like the northern version you walk along the entire Giudecca canal, but in this case on the Giudecca island.

   Teatro Malibran

   Teatro Malibran was built in 1678, and is now part of La Fenice. Tickets for opera, ballet, and symphony performances are available at La Fenice, various locations around the city, or by phone.

    Venice International Film Festival

    Attend the annual film festival, the oldest of its kind. It is organized by La Biennale di Venezia and usually takes place around late August or early September. Make your reservations early as the island is small and hotels fill up. Many celebrities attend this annual event, so have your camera ready.
