Library Square and Vancouver Public Library
Find a spot near the atrium or the public spaces around the building. The 'square within a circle' design by Moshe Safdie looks striking in the early morning light. Arrive before the sun crests to watch the sky shift from dark blue to gold.

Library Square and Vancouver Public Library
Watch the sunrise. On this date, the sun sets toward the WSW, but the eastern exposure of the square and the surrounding cityscape provides a beautiful backdrop as the city lights fade. The large public spaces are perfect for this quiet observation.

Walk 4 minutes to H-Mart. While primarily a grocery store, the food court on the second floor offers good lunch choices and is open from 09:00. With sunrise at 09:02, you will arrive just as it opens, allowing you to grab a hot, fresh meal or coffee to start your day properly.

Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden
Walk 14 minutes East to the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen Classical Chinese Garden. This Ming-dynasty style garden is the first of its kind outside China. The morning light filters through the traditional materials and tools used in its construction, offering a serene contrast to the modern library. Note that the garden opens at 10:00, so you will arrive just in time for your first visit of the day.
Local tip
The Library Square atrium is open from 10:00, but the public spaces around the building are accessible earlier. If you want to go inside the library, you will need to wait until 10:00. The walk from the library to Chinatown is short and easy, making it a perfect post-sunrise stroll.
