Walk three minutes from the anchor to the Gate to the Northwest Passage. This is the best spot to stand. The sculpture frames the water perfectly as the sun dips toward the WSW.

Walk eight minutes down to Kitsilano Beach. The sand is still warm and the light is fading into a soft blue over the water.
Local tip
The Gate to the Northwest Passage is adjacent to the Vancouver Maritime Museum. If you want to see the St. Roch ship inside, check the museum hours before you go. Kits Beach Coffee is open until 19:00, so you have plenty of time.
