Timeline

  1. 20:28

    Koerners Pub

Grab a pint at Koerners Pub. The patio is the best spot to people-watch and settle in before the walk. It is open until 01:00 on weekdays, so you have plenty of time.

  2. 20:53

    UBC Botanical Garden

Walk 20 minutes across campus from the pub area to the UBC Botanical Garden. Enter through the main gates and head straight for the Asian garden. The late afternoon sun filters through the trees, creating long shadows and warm light on the stone paths.

  3. 21:13

    UBC Botanical Garden

Watch the sun set toward the NW. The garden’s open spaces and coastal forest settings frame the western horizon perfectly. The quiet atmosphere here means you can enjoy the moment without the crowds found at other city parks.

  4. 21:58

    The Gallery Lounge

End the evening at The Gallery Lounge. It is a short walk back toward the student union area. The Gallery is usually quieter than the Pit and offers a relaxed spot to unwind with a drink after the garden visit. Karaoke nights are on Tuesdays, but the open mic nights on Monday offer a similar vibe.

Local tip

The Botanical Garden is open from 10AM to 6PM, with closing time at 5PM in winter. For a July sunset, you have ample time to enter and explore before the light fades. Koerners Pub is run by the Graduate Student Society and features free pool, shuffleboard, and foosball if you want to pass the time before your walk.
