Golden Light at the Upper Barrakka

    Grab a pastry and coffee at the venerable Caffe Cordina. It opens at 08:00, so you can go early to beat the crowds. The coffee bar is the place to be for a quiet start.

    Cafe Society

    Walk three minutes to Cafe Society. It is the only queer bar in Malta and great for drinks. Guests spill out into the street in warmer months, but it is a solid spot to wait out the midday heat before the main event.

    The Upper Barrakka Gardens

    Head to the Upper Barrakka Gardens. The view of the Grand Harbour is jaw-dropping. This is the moment the golden light starts at 16:32, bathing the harbour in warm tones. Bring champagne if you have it.

Local tip

Caffe Cordina closes at 19:00 on weekdays and 16:00 on Sundays. Cafe Society is open until 01:00. The gardens are public access, but check if any temporary closures apply.
