Timeline
15:22
Start at the Military Theme Park. It is open until 17:00, so you have plenty of time to wander the grounds and see the collection of weapons and uniforms before heading out. The museum operates on two foundations: military history and patriotism, featuring work by Estonian fire-fighters and police.
15:27
Walk six minutes to Kukemarket. This small supermarket is on the way to the memorial and is a convenient spot to grab a snack or water if you need it before the walk.
15:32
Walk five minutes southwest into Valga Town Park. This is your viewing spot. On 15 January the sun sets toward the SW, which aligns perfectly with your position in the park relative to the Military Theme Park. Arrive by 16:02 to watch the golden light fade.
16:32
After the sun goes down, head back toward the center. Voorimehi Pubi is only a seven-minute walk away. It is one of the few places open late in the evening where you can actually eat. The choice of hot dishes is limited, but it is a reliable option for a main course after dark.
17:02
End your evening at Conspirator Baar in the Town Park area. It is more of a restaurant than a bar, with a cozy atmosphere and inexpensive hot dishes. The menu is extensive, and it is open until 22:00 on weekdays or 24:00 on weekends, giving you plenty of time to linger.
Local tip
The Military Theme Park website is not in English, so check it in advance if you want specific details. For dinner, Voorimehi Pubi is the closest option to the park, but Conspirator Baar offers more food variety if you do not mind a slightly longer walk.
