Museu de Belles Arts de València
Walk straight into the Museu de Belles Arts de València. Arriving at 10:00 on an April morning means you have the galleries to yourself. Explore the medieval altarpieces and the Piranesi engravings in the quiet 17th-century palace before the tour groups arrive.
10:45
Walk 12 minutes to Horchatería Santa Catalina. It is the oldest horchatería in Valencia and perfect for a mid-morning break. Order horchata with fartons or hot chocolate with churros in the tiled cafeteria atmosphere.
11:30
Head south for a 34-minute walk to Parc Gulliver. The centrepiece is a 70-metre-long sculpture of Gulliver tied to the ground. Climb on the giant figure and slide down its back. It is an unusual and playful end to the morning.
Local tip
The museum is free but can get busy. Arriving right at opening time is the best way to see the Velázquez and Goya works without waiting. Horchatería Santa Catalina is open daily from 08:00, so it will be ready for you. The walk to Parc Gulliver is long; wear comfortable shoes.
