Timeline

  1. 16:30

    Talisman

Grab a local snack or drink at Talisman. It is just a short walk from the site and opens early enough for you to start your evening here.

  2. 17:15

    Goa Gajah

Walk to the entrance of Goa Gajah. The ornate demon's mouth entrance and the carved guards are best seen in the fading light. Check that you have your sarong ready, as it is included in the entry price.

  3. 17:45

    Goa Gajah

Stand near the entrance pools. The sun is setting toward the WSW, casting a golden glow on the ancient stone carvings and the fragmentary statues inside the cave.

  4. 18:30

    Bale Udang

End the evening with dinner at Bale Udang. It is a 12-minute walk away and stays open late, giving you plenty of time to relax after the site closes.

Local tip

The site closes at 17:00, so you must enter before the golden light begins. Use the earlier time to explore the rice fields and stupa fragments along the path before the light hits the main entrance.
