Timeline

  1. 16:16

    Barong Dance

Arrive at the venue for the Barong Dance. The performance starts at 09:30, but if you are here in the late afternoon, use the time to get your bearings. Note that the ticket office sells tickets separately for the Kecak (6:30) and Barong (09:30) dances. The description you get there is outdated, so rely on your own timing.

  2. 16:46

    Bali Bird Park

Walk north to Bali Bird Park. It is an 18-minute walk from the dance venue. This 2-hectare aviary houses over 250 species in attractive enclosures. The park has a modern, enlightened attitude to animal exhibits. Arriving during the golden light phase (starting 17:48 on 15 April) offers excellent natural lighting for observing the birds before the sun sets.

  3. 17:46

    Barong Dance

Return to the Barong Dance venue. You have about 30 minutes before the 09:30 performance begins. Buy your ticket if you haven't already. The performance is a tourist-focused story of the battle between good and evil, featuring a lot of talking rather than continuous dancing.

  4. 19:16

    Barong Dance

Stay for the performance. The Barong dance lasts about an hour. After it ends, you will be in the right position to head out for dinner and a drink in the dark, as the sun will have set at 18:16.

Local tip

The walk between the dance venue and the bird park takes 18 minutes. Stick to the main road south of Ubud towards Sanur for the dance venue, then head north for the park.
