Timeline

  1. 13:00

    Dora 1

Walk to the Dora 1 bunker. This massive concrete structure served as a German submarine base during the occupation. It now houses several archives, including those for the city of Trondheim, NTNU university, and the government. The sheer scale of the concrete walls is striking against the winter sky.

  2. 13:17

    Ramp Pub & Spiseri

Stop at Ramp Pub & Spiseri for a drink or light meal. It is only a 3-minute walk from the bunker. This laid-back pub offers good prices and a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for warming up before heading out. Note that on weekdays it opens at 16:00, so if you arrive earlier, you can grab a coffee or pastry at the nearby Godt Brød bakery (11-minute walk), which opens at 06:30 on weekdays.

  3. 14:17

    Stiftsgårdsparken

Stroll through Stiftsgårdsparken. This park is about 25 minutes away by bus or a longer walk, offering a green contrast to the industrial history of the bunker. It is a quiet space to reflect on the day's history before the sun begins to set.

  4. 14:47

    Korsvika

Make your way to Korsvika beach. Located 21 minutes from the anchor, this small beach offers a view of the fjord. Be aware that the area can sometimes be littered with waste, so keep an eye on your surroundings. As the sun sets toward the southwest, the light will reflect off the water and the distant hills, creating a stark but beautiful winter scene.

Local tip

The sun stays low all day in January. Dress warmly and bring a flashlight as it gets dark quickly after sunset at 15:17.
