Timeline
19:06
Arrive and take the minibus shuttle up to the site. The monastery is open until 20:00, so you have plenty of time before the sun dips. Grab a coffee or a light snack from the facilities near the parking lot or entrance area to keep your energy up. The crowds are thinner this late in the afternoon, giving you space to breathe before the main event.
19:36
Walk to the edge of the viewing platform. The sun is setting toward the WNW, casting a brilliant golden glow on the western face of the monastery and the surrounding pine forests. This is the peak of the golden hour. Stand still and let the light hit the frescoes and the sheer cliff face. It is the perfect moment for a photograph or just quiet contemplation.
20:21
After the sun has set, the temperature drops and the light turns blue. Take the shuttle back down. If you need a warm drink or a simple meal to celebrate the day, head to the local eateries near the parking lot or the town center below. The monastery gates close at 20:00, so ensure you have descended by then.
Local tip
The minibus shuttle can have a queue. Arriving at least 45 minutes before sunset helps you secure a spot and a good viewing angle without the rush.
