Beat the heat and the crowds by starting early. This plan pairs the quietest time to see the Watanabe Museum’s samurai collection with a nearby snack before heading to the dunes.

Timeline

  1. 10:00

    Watanabe Museum

Enter the Watanabe Museum. Arriving at opening time means you will have the halls largely to yourself. Spend the first hour looking at the wild display of samurai armor, ukiyo-e prints, and the collection started by Dr. Hajime Watanabe in the 1940s.

  2. 11:30

    いずみおじさんのソフトクリーム

Walk to Izumi Oji-san’s Soft Serve. Grab a soft serve ice cream and a drink to go. This café is open from 09:00 to 16:30, so it will be ready for you after your museum visit.

  3. 12:00

    Tottori Sakyu Sandboard School

Head to the Tottori Sakyu Sandboard School. Use the remaining time to explore the dunes on foot. If you want to try sandboarding, remember that reservations are required and you need at least 10 people signed up for the course.

Local tip
