Timeline

  1. 16:58

    La Sevillana

Stop at La Sevillana for a bite. Their jaibas de rellenas (stuffed crabs) are a local specialty and the portion sizes are generous. You will have time to eat and digest before the sun goes down.

  2. 17:53

    Old Maritime Customs House

Walk to the Old Maritime Customs House. Arrive 15 minutes before sunset to find a good spot on the grounds or nearby steps. The building faces west, offering a clear view of the sky as the light fades.

  3. 18:08

    Parque Anahuac

Move to Parque Anahuac. It is only a 13-minute walk from the Customs House and sits to the SSE. From here, you can watch the sun set toward the WSW over the city skyline. The park offers a slightly elevated perspective and a quiet atmosphere.

  4. 18:53

    La Caverna

End the evening at La Caverna. This pub is just a 4-minute walk from the Customs House area. It is a reliable spot for a decent beer and good company after the walk. The owner is affable and the atmosphere is relaxed.

Local tip

The sun sets toward the WSW in January, W in April and October. Parque Anahuac is positioned well to catch these angles. If you are visiting in July, the sun sets further to the WNW, but the park still provides an open view.

Check before you go

  • La Sevillana closes at 17:30. If you are visiting on a date with a later sunset (like July 15 at 19:18), you may need to skip this step or go earlier in the day. For January, April, and October, you have enough time before the 17:30 close.
  • The Old Maritime Customs House is open Wed-Sun 10:00-16:00. You cannot enter the museum after 16:00, but you can still use the exterior grounds and nearby parks for viewing.
  • La Caverna has no listed opening hours. It is generally open in the evenings, but it is wise to check if it is open late.
