Timeline
05:26
Walk up to the archaeological site. It is quiet and cool before the sun rises. Find a spot on the edge of the mound where you can see the horizon to the east and west. The earthworks are best seen in profile, so move around slightly to catch the changing light on the slopes.
05:56
Watch the sunrise. On mid-April mornings, the sun breaks over the horizon around 05:56. The light is soft and directional, highlighting the texture of the Bronze Age ramparts. Stay for the golden light that follows immediately after, which lasts until about 18:51, though the morning transition is quick and subtle.
06:26
Head to Pincesor for a post-sunrise drink. The winery is open on weekends. Since the sun rises at 05:56, you will arrive well after opening time. Order a local wine or a light breakfast to warm up after the early morning chill. The walk from the mound is short, so you can enjoy the fresh air before settling in.
Local tip
The Archaeological Park is a 12-minute walk from the mound, but it is better to stay at the mound for the sunrise view. The park is more for daytime exploration of the burial mounds and everyday life exhibits. Bring a jacket; early mornings in Százhalombatta can be chilly.
Check before you go
- Pincesor is open Sa-Su. If you are visiting on a weekday, you will need to find another place for breakfast or coffee, as no other food shops are listed near the anchor.
- Check the exact sunrise time for your specific day, as it shifts daily. The golden light period is long, but the initial sunrise moment is brief.
