Grab a table at Thai Pothong. The understated black and white decor sets a calm tone before the evening rush. Arrive early to secure a seat, as it is one of Sydney's premier Thai restaurants and fills up quickly.
17:33
Walk 11 minutes northeast to Camperdown Memorial Rest Park. You will find plenty of open space and atmospheric street art on the surrounding walls. The park is just two blocks behind King St, making it the perfect spot to watch the sun set toward the west.
18:18
Head back towards the hub for a late bite. The Pie Tin offers a variety of good-sized pies, from sweet to savoury, along with craft beers. It is open until 22:00 on Thursdays, giving you plenty of time to enjoy a casual meal after the light fades.
18:48
End the night at the Town Hall Hotel. This seedy but beloved pub is the best place in Newtown for a final drink. Older residents and punters drink downstairs, while everyone else heads upstairs to Platform 8. It is open until 24:00 on Thursdays.
Local tip
Thai Pothong is pricey but worth it for the quality. If you prefer a more relaxed pub atmosphere after the park, the Carlisle Castle Bistro is a quieter alternative with high-quality food.
