Sunrise Alignment at Fort Hill Park

A quiet morning ritual to watch the sun rise directly behind Fort Hill Park, followed by a warm breakfast nearby.

Best time: 06:18About 45 min

Timeline

  1. 05:48

    Fort Hill Park

Walk up the slope of Fort Hill Park in the St. George neighborhood. Find a clear spot on the western-facing slope to look back toward the east. Arrive early to secure your position.

  2. 06:18

    Fort Hill Park

Watch the sunrise. On dates between 09 March and 14 March, or 29 September and 04 October, the sun will rise directly behind the park from this vantage point.

  3. 06:43

    Blue

Head to Blue, a Mediterranean restaurant near the Chinese Scholar’s Garden. The kitchen opens at 12:00, so this step is for a later visit. For an early morning option, check the route to Self Service Coffee Pointe (opens 08:00) or Harbor Eats (opens 11:30), or visit Taqueria Gallo Azteca which opens at 08:00 and is a short walk from the anchor area.

Local tip

The alignment only works on specific dates in spring and autumn. Check the sky conditions on the day. The walk from Fort Hill Park to the nearby eateries is short, but verify opening times as many places near the Chinese Scholar’s Garden open mid-morning.

Check before you go
