Timeline
20:03
Start at Deano's Bar, a Stanley institution since the 1990s. Order a bottled beer or two and settle in for the pre-sunset wind-down. It is just a short walk from the cathedral.
20:43
Walk up to Sapper Hill. This summit offers the vantage point for the sunset. The climb takes about 20 minutes from the town center, so leave Deano's with enough time to reach the top before the light changes.
21:03
Watch the sun set toward the SW. On this date, the golden light starts around 20:12, leading into the sunset at 21:03. The sky will shift from bright gold to deep twilight over the Falklands landscape.
21:33
Head down to the Globe Tavern for a post-sunset drink. Located just up the hill from the public jetty, it is a great place to unwind after the climb. If it is a Sunday night, you might catch the Karaoke.
Local tip
Sapper Hill is 44 minutes walk from Christ Church Cathedral. The sunset direction is SW in January, which aligns well with the view from the summit.
